Do these FPDMs just die, or do they slowly degrade? My truck has over 100k miles on it, and runs fine. Being a FL truck, the FPDM still looks good. Should I buy a new one, and keep it in the truck as a spare? Install a new one, and keep the old one as a spare? WWYD?

The FPDM usually fails due to corrosion of the body.
If there is no corrosion or cracks they are normally good.
I removed mine for inspection. It looked to be completely intact.
I cleaned the case and painted it with several coats of enamel.
Placed a fiber gasket between the frame and FPDM.
Still the original from 2004.

If it looks fine, I'd space it off the frame. While the rust belt areas see the fastest corrosion, it can still happen to you due to the dissimilar metals issue. Aluminum FPDM body against the steel frame is the main problem.
