Default Fuel mileage

I just made a 400 mile trip, picked up about 500lbs halfway through to go with the 400lbs I already have. After adding the extra weight the truck averaged 2mpg better. I've driven a lot of F series dating from mid 70s to '14. They all feel like they run better with a load but I've never experienced better fuel mileage. Anyone else experience this?

2MPG could be due to the ethanol content of the gas you bought.

The gas is not always 10% ethanol but is is up to 10% enthanol

Same tank of fuel the whole trip, longest trip I've taken on a tank as well, truck has the 26 gal piece. There was a bit more traffic on the way home but speed was the same. Maybe it was from drafting.

Well, when I tow my 4500lb travel trailer, my gas mileage always goes DOWN. I get 14-16 mpg w/o the trailer, depending on temperature, my right foot, and other factors. When towing I can get from 9-12 mpg, lower when fighting a head wind and A/C is on; higher when not using A/C, no headwind and outside temps between 50-60 degrees. I've also found my best gas mileage is doing 60-65 mph-even thou truck will pull trailer @ 75mph-which I'd never do. A lot of variables to consider, I added a Scan Gauge II several years ago to monitor my truck/driving style. I've gotten 20mpg a few times, but not often when not towing. I only use Top Tier fuel, not the cheapest gas out there-there is some crappy gas out there. Truck is flex-fuel rated, but have never done E-85 and don't plan to use it.
