if the injectors hang, typically th smell of raw fuel will be unbearable and the exhaust will puke white smoke. The only thing that controls injector function is the EEC, did he have a tuner?

Naw, he used it as a work truck for his side business. I talked to him the other morning, and he said they have it torn apart in the bay, waiting on the new parts to come in. He doesnt know if he's gonna keep it afterwards, but the truck was bone stock, nothing other than scheduled maintenances performed.

Default Ford 5.4 Fuel Injectors letter

I just opened a letter from FoMoCo regarding the possiblilty of stuck injectors. Ford has extended the basic warranty to 11 years or 120K miles from the warranty start date and is automatically transferred to subsequent owners on all fuel injectors on the 2005 5.4L 3V Motors. I haven't had a problem with the injectors so far, but I'm Keeping my letter under lock and key just in case. Ford states that it will replace any and all injectors free of charge, parts and labor included.

I got my letter too.....

I haven't had a problem, other than a no start one night while christmas shopping, but it eventually fired up.

Default Lived the Nightmare!

Back in November, I started the truck one morning and it started misfiring with alot of white smoke. I immediately shut it down and called the dealership for a service appointment. I told the Service writer the problem and he said it was probably just a stuck injector. I asked if it was OK to drive it down to the shop...answer, SURE!

They got to it the same day and advised that is was a stuck injector, but there was some NOISE coming from the low end of the motor and they needed to tear it down to confirm a problem. Long story short, it had hydra-lok'd and ruined the motor. Did I mention that the truck had 38,259 miles? Yep right out of warranty.

The dealer wnated over $8K to replace the motor (they had to "condemn" the motor). Needless to say, I wasn't very happy. Called Ford Customer Relations and very calmly explained my situation and told them that I expected Ford to pick up the tab. Well, they picked up all but $800.

After I got my letter, I went back up to the dealer and am now happily waiting for the rest of my refund. Now happily ever after!

Default bad injectors

Dloudy, you mention that you haven't had any problem besides a no start. My 05 5.4 had the same symptoms of difficulty starting once warmed up and then shut off. Also had rough idle. It was not throwing any codes but I still took it in to dealer. They replaced 4 defective injectors along with corresponding spark plugs under warranty (27,500 miles). Two days later I got the letter from Ford for the extended warranty for the injectors. I would suggest to get it looked at as soon as a problem is noticed because it can cause so much harm down the line including catalytic converters and the motor itself.

Default injectors

i had to have my injectors replaced in my 4.6 with 9,000 mi on it. My buddy works at the dealership as a mech and it was covered by warranty. I was on vacation in charloette and i noticed a small miss at like 2,700 rpm and my gas milage SUCKED . so when I got back he ran it on the computer and it showed a misfire he said "normally thats a bad injector" they were replaced and no problems YET

Stories like that make me I bought the EXTENDED Warranty !!! .
The thought of even having to "Pay" $800 let alone $8000 makes me
and my wife didn't want too.
