Default Fuel Filter Part #

Owners manual says FG-986-B but fordparts.com says FG-1083. Which one should I order?

These filters are made for two different size fittings. You cannot interchange them. The FG-986B is made for a 5/8" fitting, I believe, and the FG-1083B is made for a 7/16" line. Regardless the 1083 is designed and made for a larger fitting.

Non-FFV vehicles use the smaller fuel filter - 04/05 models

FFV vehicles use the bigger fuel filter - 06+ models

But it gets tricky. One of the plants (Dearborne I think) apparently used the FFV filter for all the trucks during a production run...so you may have a non-FFV, but have the FFV fuel pump/filter.

Want to make it easier? Crawl under the truck and get the part number from the one that is currently installed on your truck!

This can be done by letting the engine completely cool down correct? Such as, letting it sit overnight and changing the filter in the morning

Maybe? But I herd you can pull the fuel pump fuse and start the truck and let it run out of fuel, or trip the fuel Pump shut off in the passenger side kick panel

This is how I did mine without issues. I think I opened the gas cap in the morning too but unsure if it was necessary.
