No, haven't picked up a manual yet. It's been under the 3yr/36K mile warranty up until this month, so haven't needed one. Plus I have an ESP for 6yr/75K miles, so not sure how much use I'd get out of one. Then again for these normal replacement items that aren't covered under warranty, I may just need to pick one up.

Relieving the fuel pressure is in the ford fuel filter replacement procedure, but from my experience, it's easier to just catch the gas in a bucket than go through the effort of depressurizing the system.

Here's the pressure release steps:
  1. NOTE: The splash shield is located on the LH frame rail under the driver side door. Disconnect the splash shield and position aside.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  3. Start the engine and allow it to idle until it stalls.
  4. After the engine stalls, crank the engine for approximately 5 seconds to make sure the fuel rail pressure has been released.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  6. When fuel system service is complete, connect the electrical connector.
  7. Reposition the splash shield and install a new pushpin.
  8. NOTE: It may take more than one key cycle to pressurize the fuel system. Cycle the ignition key and wait 3 seconds to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks before starting the engine.
  9. Install the diagnostic tool. Turn the key ON with the engine OFF. Cycle the key OFF, then ON. Select the appropriate vehicle and engine qualifier. Clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and carry out a PCM reset.
  10. Start the vehicle and check the fuel system for leaks.

Yep, remove the neg battery cable... Then pop the old on out and the new on in... Took my longer to clean up the mess than to swap the filter... Wasn't but maybe a pint of fuel... Did our 03 Expedition this afternoon...

Don't forget you'll need a beer or two! One while you work, and one to enjoy after finishing and enjoying your handy work.

Beer's great for getting rid of that gassy aftertaste.
P.S. remember to wear some safety glasses. Fuel feels kinda funny in your eyeballs.
Also, don't do this with a lit cigarette hanging outta your mouth. I know you gotta look cool while wrenching on that rig, so if you do, make sure the camera is rolling and post the you-tube link here.
