Default Fuel Filter

I have an 05 screw. And i took it to the dealership to get a recall taken care of. and when i went to get it they told me the fuel filter is gonna need changed. and to have them do it they said the filter itself costed like 80 bucks.....and i looked it up at pepboys and they only charge 15 bucks for the filter but i would have to change it....the only thing is i guess there is a special tool u need to take the clamps off. has anyone changed one. and if so how did u get the clamps off.

Change it yourself, save the money, I changed mine for less than $20.00 and thats counting the tool. Takes about 5 minutes after you know what your doing.

x2, tool can be found at pep-boys for under 5 bucks. Filter cost around 9-11 bucks and a few minutes of your time.

Yeah, my dealer has been telling me to replace it every time I go in, since it was at 15K miles. Now at 27K miles, I plan on changing at 30K. And thanks 06Fordf150 for the write up. Just wish the pics were still available.

EDIT: Now have things changed on these new trucks? When I last replaced a fuel filter, I had to locate the fuel pump cut-off switch, deactivate it, then run the engine until it died to get the majority of the fuel out of the lines. Then complete all the steps listed, then flip the switch back on prior to playing with the ignition.

Default fuel filter

yea i got mine done at the FORD Dealer where i live it was like 17 for the filter but i think the 80 bucks you were talking about is because they were charging you and hour for the labor i got it for half that bc it takes about a half an hour so i got it done for about 60 bucks if i had the wrenches i wouldove done it

im pretty sure you can just go ahead and take the filter out without relieving fuel pressure, i think it would be worse to run your truck out of gas the way you described

You think? Of course last time I did this was on a '99 Explorer and used a Chiltons book that stated to run it out of gas. So who knows.

And my dealer is willing to change for roughly $50 plus tax for changing the fuel filer.
