front right wheel noise !
Hi my name is joe and I am new to this site. Any help would be appreciated---i am at my wits end.
I have a 2006 ford F150; 4x4 supercrew with the 5.4 liter.
Last thursday i was driving and noticed at low speed braking the right front wheel was making a grinding/squelling noise. This continued througout the day so I went to Midas.
They looked at it and said it was the wheel bearings going bad. So I had them replace both left and right bearings. 2 days later it is doing the same thing again so Midas changed the right bearing again. 30 miles later --- it is doing it again. Back to Midas, and they said "we have no clue what it could be---and you should take it to someone else." This is after paying 1331.00 dollars----this truck is like my first born.
I am a contractor and carry ALOT of tools/weight in my truck. My first thought was it was the brakes on the right side. But Midas said the brakes were fine and that it was the wheel bearings. Obviously it is not.
Has anyone had anything similar happen like this?? It only happens at low speed braking.

$1331 for two front wheel bearings (hubs) on a 4x4? Good God you got raped! They are about $170 for the hub including ABS sensor on Amazon for good Timken units.
Timken SP550212 Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly by Timken
Remove the wheel, brakes, dust cap, axle nut, and 4 hub bolts and the entire bearing and hub comes off. This series of F150 is one of the easiest vehicles to change a hub/bearing on.
If it only happens when applying the brakes, then they are likely the issue. Any steering problems?

If you don't know what to look for, take it to a competent mechanic instead of the monkeys at Midas. Brakes are a primary suspect.
They are likely either worn down to the metal pad backing or the slide pins and pad mounting surfaces are frozen and need to be lubed or replaced.

Just be aware that you are going to get raped again by Ford for new brakes. Brakes, suspension, bearings/hubs are bread and butter money makers for shops. You can get better parts for less money and save a ton on labor costs if you know how to do it yourself and shop Amazon and Rock Auto for parts.

Great brake pads. Almost no dust, excellent stopping power and resistance to brake fade. Very quiet. Perfect for towing heavy loads.
