I just went through this man. It will sound like ball bearings in coffee can on cold starts and under a load.

If my IWE actuator fails, will this cause my hub assembly to fail as well? I know my hub assembly needs to be replaced because it has play when i move it to and from after its on a lift.

Perfect, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I'm assuming you had the growling coming from your front end and a test of the vacuum system diagnosed the problem..? Also, any recommendations on makes for IWE's? I think mine might be going bad too.

Mine sounded like someone was shaking nails in a soup can on hard acceleration nasty grinding sounds from the front end. I First replaced the solenoid (located behind the battery on the firewall) and that didnt fix my problem. So i did a quick check on the rubber lines that connect to the IWE's and after I decided they were fine and not dry rotted or anything I just replaced the IWE's. As of right now I have one dorman one and one techsmart one (believe thats the brand) from advance auto cause one of the dorman ones failed a few months ago. Hope this helps

When I bought my truck the 4X4 high didn't work, so I replaced the solenoid and that fixed the problem!

I need to do more troubleshooting, but I get a sound like that at slow speeds during a turn. But only OCCASIONALLY! I took a drive for about an hour and it was fine (did get a consistent pull toward one side but that was expected) and then got a noticeable noise when pulling into the parking lot. Sounded like I was in 4X4..

I'm wondering if that's from my hub assembly, because I know it needs to be replaced. If you have any ideas shoot, but if not I'll report back with what I find when I investigate the IWE system.

I got my truck on a lift and the 4X4 system worked fine. I didn't measure the vacuum to make sure it was perfect, but it engaged and disengaged.

The passerengers front tire still had a lot of play to it. I ordered a Timken hub assembly, so I'll document that R&R when it happens. Should be here on Monday so hopefully next weekend or sooner.
