This is a Ford Forum, don't talk about all the other junk out there. Of course this is not normal, not on any truck. What is your statement based on? And what have you been doing to this poor truck?

This could only be called normal if almost all the miles are in town. If the truck hasn't been used for anykind of intown work, ie pizza delivery, lawn care tow unit, you should look into the issue further. What exactly is "gone" in the front end?

Thats bologna. But just in case, tomorrow morning I'll look at mine. 172K, get 60k on a set of tires, tire wear is nothing abnormal. But I'll look anyway just to be safe. Suggest, you get another opinion. Mine is an 02.

Had this problem on mine, back in the days when the OEM 'greaseless' joints first came into vogue. Had to replace the tie rod ends, drag link, etc. at about 70K. Ball joints made it to 150K. Made sure that greasable replacements were installed - so far, so good, with no further replacements needed.

Surely things have improved since the 1989 offerings?

i used to do alignments and i seen a couple of 04's with this problem but it looked like they been beat on my dad used to have an 05 FX4 supercab and he had some funny tire wear at only 15K i aligned it and it was fine at 70K when he sold it, mine has 47K on it now and nothing is outta wack yet, but not gonna lie I have seen the front ends on the 04-present f series fall apart at low miles but only on wrecked or (what seemed to be) neglected trucks. But the new front ends are alot better than the old ones, the 97-03's are know for having bad parts with out aparrent play to tell if the tie rods are bad you gotta literally punch them and see if they move alot cause they won't show play wiggling the tire
