Default Friday night madness

Just did the spark plugs in my 2006 with the 5.4. Only had two plugs break. Drivers side front two, had the Lisle tool on hand and worked amazing. Also up dated the VCT solenoids and replaced the coil packs too. Switched the truck over to Mobil one 5w30 from 5w20. The truck runs great! Just wanted to thank you guys on the forums for all the great information provided during my research before I started this project. Keep on trucking!

Sounds like a nice productive night. Always feels good to have a smooth running truck!

I agree, I switched my truck to M1 5w30 when I got it as well as new VCT/VVT's solenoids and it made a world of difference. Running Kreen through it right now because I had varnish on the oil cap and dig stick which makes me think the truck didnt have regular oil changes. Heard good things about Kreen so we shall see how it does.

I'm new to the F150 (2008) and just changed the plugs to the one piece and did all the fluids (amsoil). Can someone tell me why they switched to 5W30 oil? What are the VCT/VVT all about and why should I change or upgrade them?

I've had the truck since 2009 and it only had 23,000 miles on it at the time. It now has just under 80,000. While the VCT solenoids were out you could see down into the motor(timing components and some valve train). Talk about clean, no sludge build up at all. I've always ran Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w20. Mobil is no joke. I was very impressed by their product.

I'm so glad I didn't break any plugs when I did mine quite a while ago. Even though I had a Lyle tool, I probably would have lost 2 pounds due to stress before using it. Haha.

I'm also a fan of M1 5w30. My truck is extremely quiet and smooth on that oil. Used Penzoil Platinum for a long time, but when I tried M1 it was a noticeable difference.
