Got a 2005 lariat screw 4x4. mint on the outside and inside but underneath u can tell its been in MA its whole life with POs that didnt know the meaning of undercarriage wash... Started going at some rust under the truck ive been procrastinating until after winter... Was scraping/wirebrushing the rear pass side of frame and opened this up.... The weld seam on the bottom rotted and was able to open up big crack, runs about 1 foot along the bottom the pic was taken after i hit it with some rust encapsulator, was taken from laying underneath in the driveway. Anyone else have similar issues with the weld seam on the frame rotting out? I am hoping a weld shop can just cutout the bad metal and weld in new patch... Most of the area around the seam/crack feels & sounds solid. However if its bad and spreading may consider ditching it for a newer one..

I would think that open seam will only get worse regardless of applying undercoating. I would think a weld shop could easily weld in some reinforcements plates either over the top of the bad stuff or after cutting the bad stuff out. Then I'd hit it it again with some undercoating. Good luck.
