four wheel drive problems????

Here's the fix
My truck has been serviced 3 times now. Here's the issue:
The front hubs are engaged by releasing the vaccum. Completely opposite from what I would expect, you would think the vaccum engages the hubs for 4x4. Anyway, fittings were constantly failing and cracking. The "pissing" sounds I kept hearing from the front end was the hubs loosing vaccum. I told my dealer the issue, but they were determined to prove me wrong. After 3 visits they finally found the problem and replaced the cracked fittings. This problem started before the truck was 1 year old. I put 20000 miles on the tuck before they finally fixed it. Reading other posts I think Ford has an issue with these hubs, but no recall has been published yet.
Good Luck.

I dont know if we are talking about the same selnoid that is on the passenger side firewall or not ? I replaced mine and the clicking noise went away. It cost 28.00 at the dealer and i put it in myself in about 15 min. Ford remanufactured this part to have a cover over it so it could no longer take on water from the cowl. That was the problem with them they took on water and tried to engage the 4wd partialy which was the clicking noise you were probably hearing. Thats why it went away when you engaged the 4wd. Hope that helps.

What is next?
I have an 07 F150 s/c and a few months ago I started to have an issue where I would hear a loud clunk then this awful scraping noise that sounded like my 4x4 was trying to engage without my turning it on. The noise would stop eventually by itself or immediately upon me turning on the 4x4. I have just changed out a bad vacuum check valve and the solenoid last night but my 4x4 still doesn't work. I have checked all the fuses associated and still nothing. Anyone have ideas of what could still be wrong?
