Default Ford OEM pads & Rotors or aftermarket.. opinions please

Hi Guys,

It's time for me to do a complete brake job both front and rear rotors and pads.

Right now I have 199km on my truck and have had these rotors and pads since I bought it at 126km. So I've got over 70,000km on the brakes over the last 4 yrs. Pretty good I'd say. They were replaced by FORD for OEM when I bought it.

The brakes were great.. Thing is now Ford dealer wants $900 after taxes for front & rear rotors and pads. These aren't the heavy duty ones either.

Lots of money yes, but I know they had decent life and worked fairly well.

My question is would you guys stick to the FORD OEM setup or go after market.

If aftermarket what would you do? Unless somebody has a ford dealer that gives much cheaper options...

keep in mind those are in CANADIAN dollars not USD.

thx!

I went with Advance's in house brand of rotors; very happy with the performance and cost.

used Motorcraft pads, won't do that again. Talking to a lot of people with the same issue, it's (partially) responsible for the soft pedal these trucks tend to have.

I went with Stillen Sport rotors and Hawk LTS Pads and love them!

Like Techrep, my brakes feel a lot better than OEM.

thanks guys.

I don't really have any complaints on the OEM. I was rather impressed I got over 70,000 km out of them and I do tow etc.

Were the hawks more expensive?

The Hawk LTS cost me around $160ish for the front and rear.

I don't like the OEM pads because they're Semi-Metallic and leave tons of dust. Pick up a good ceramic pad and be done with the dust.

Hard to argue with your recent experience on your truck and your driving pattern. But I just replaced fronts with rotor/hub one piece on fronts (RWD) from AC Delco and Wagner Thermo quiet pads I got off Amazon and rear rotors and pads from Advanced Auto and have had great performance so far from both. It was fun to do as welll. My total cost with shipping for new rotor and pads on all four corners was less than $300. Is your truck 4x4?

This guy has it right. I love Wagner Thermo-Quiets or even Centric Posi-Quiet Ceramics. Ebay has great prices on both.
