Ford F150 & Expedition Front Hub and Bearing Replacement
In this video I go over another common failure on the Expedition and F150 4WD vehicles. The hub and bearing on these units usually fail silently and go unnoticed until the wheel is literally binding and scraping upon turns ready to fall off unlike the explorers and FWD cars that have sealed bearings which have a loud humming noise when they are failing. I show you how to replace it with all the tips and torque specs along the way.

great vid, i saw on youtube, i think also your vid... that you can change just the iwe, but after ford took my VIN they said i had to order the whole assy, is that right, or could i have just changed the iwe? either way i dont mind changing the bearings too

Not to be a pedant, but they're all sealed bearing units.

the 2wd on the 2005 model uses the rotor as the hub and bearing assembly and are very expensive.
You can just change out the iwe for 4wd problems yes that is a separate repair from this as it is on the backside. The iwe is all one piece yes.

I dont' know about the rest of them, but when I had mine done a few months ago, both fronts were indeed sealed in the truck in my avatar. The grinding got to be absolutely terrible by the time I got it in to have them taken care of. I looked at the old one that had failed/was failing and it was ground down pretty bad, but didnt' appear to have gotten far enough to throw the wheel off.

ok gotcha, ford tried to tell me i need the whole hub because i couldnt just buy the iwe separately, im a mech by trade and bearings are bearings, so for the extra 150 i dont mind doing the bearings aswell

That is kind of what I did with mine, one was bad so I went ahead and had them both changed. I wish they(Ford) had left well enough alone and we were able to just pull the old bearings out and repack new ones back in like with the older trucks instead of having to buy the entire hub assembly.
