Default FNG w/5.4 rattle/ticking problem

Did a search and there are a lot of suggestions but thought I'd list my exact situation.

Truck is 2007 4x4XLT with 5.4.

Bought it new and have changed oil every 5k like clockwork at Ford dealer.

Never towed anything but an ATV trailer with it until about 3000 miles ago. It has 96,000 on it now. About a month ago we towed a small two horse trailer (under 5000 lbs) from our home in SW Utah to SoCal and back.

The day after we got back I noticed a "tick/rattle" on start up but it went away after a few seconds.

It was due for an oil change and that seemed helped a bit, but I am not really sure. What I do know is it is getting worse and under load it is more pronounced (pulling the trailer).

Origin of noise is right side of motor and its a ticking sound which is more pronounced at start up/warm up and when towing under load

Is it possible I blew an exhaust gasket? I read about these lifter problems and hope that's not it...its a good truck and in excellent shape.

Ideas?

Thanks

Is it worth putting headers on these?

Thanks

depends what your definition of worth it is...they wont give you more power but it will sound better if you have aftermarket exhaust

I see, I could care less about "sound", I have Ducati's for that
