Question floor shifter 2004 f150 won't move

Help. my 2004 f150 lariat has the console shifter. today i was leaving work and put it in park to stop a minute. When I tried to put it in gear, It would not move out of park. after 15 minutes of wiggling and pushing the brake pedal it finally allowed me to pull the shift button and move the gear selector to drive. What is up with this?

This happened to my 04 also. It's a faulty brake shift interlock switch located on the drivers side at the bottom of the shift lever. It you pop off the top of the console that surronds the shift lever and look down along the drivers side of the shift lever you will see a white plastic lever sticking out. This is for the times when the switch fails so you aren't stranded. You press down on this lever and it allows you to shift it into gear. You need to replace this switch.
