Default Fixed my ashtray rattle

Just passing on how I was able to fix the annoying rattle from my ashtray. I have a floor shift, supercrew and the ashtray would creak over every bump if closed but was fine when open. I've read others who have had the same problem, so here's my fix...

1. Remove the ashtray.
2. Pry the cover off at the top. There are 3 clips.
3. Insert a foam gasket between the cover and the ashtray (I used a gasket from an exterior electrical outlet).
4. Squeeze like hell to get the cover to latch back onto the ashtray.
5. Reinstall the ashtray.
6. Drive and hit every bump you can find, enjoying the silence.

I tried other people's solutions found in previous posts and they didn't work for my particular rattle. Hopefully this will help someone else who's driving around with an open ashtray, earplugs or more patience than I have.

Nice fix. Did something similar a few years back. Foam strips down the sides to tighten things up.

Mine too! I thought it was my truck only! Where did the foam go? Between the ash tray and the housing?

I put the gasket betwen the "wood" cover (the part you can see when the ashtray is closed) and the outside of the ashtray. Just pop the cover off, slide the gasket in and close it back up. Hope it works for you.

If you search "ashtray" in this forum you'll find that there have been several postings on ashtrays, some for your application. Maybe one of the ideas posted earlier will help you.
