I did think you had lockouts - but reviewing the prior post certainly does not say that. (That ole ASSUME thing). If you do get Torque Pro, I would be very interested in what it reports on gauges like I posted on page 304, post 3036 of this thread. But, while I finally got a fair grip on the OBDII stuff, that tune / Graphon thing is way over my head - above my pay grade!

Cast Iron tensioners can be ordered anywhere. Your just using tensioners from the previous 16 valve 5.4 or 4.6 motor, so I would suggest going to any auto parts place and tell them you have a 1997 5.4 and you need right and left chain tensioners. You will get what you need that way.
Difference between the two types is the newer plastic ones pump up when you start the vehicle, and in that time you can hear the 1 or 2 second chain noise. The old style has a ratcheting system that keeps them in place holding tension on the chains. Thus no noise, no wear.
New plastic ones also have seals that blow out frequently causing lack of pressure to the top end, where the old style doe not.
Hopefully you feel better :P
Also, there are a few mechanics out there that think that using the old tensioners will not work. Obviously they need educated, but I can relate to being a purest in some things and wanting to do the job correctly. In this case, if you use the plastic tensioners, you are doing yourself a grave disservice.

I've been using replacement plastic tensioners for years now and they're working just fine. Time will tell.

This is a great write/walk through. I have been into my 5.4 3v 2 times and going in a third time. Only because on the first attempt I had a stuck lash adjuster when I went to do the cam phasers. Second surgery I replaced all the lash adjusters, cams shaft and Dorman cam phasers. The third one will be Ford OEM cam phasers (new and updated) timing chain and all components and a new water pump since i'm there and new vcts. Hopefully I will get power back. Use only ford parts.
