I had severe chain slapping and wicked start up rattle.

Now it runs so quiet...couldn't be happier!
Are ppl having good luck with the Cloyes kits? I know the Dorman are garbage and makes me nervous of anything aftermarket.

Gentlemen, excellent thread. I read through the first 25 pages, then came to the end threads. I bought my 2004 F150 XLT two years ago and now have 116K on it. The truck just started to tick like a lifter issue. Sounds like the videos on the site. I do not have a lot of time to do myself and thankfully I got an extended warranty on the truck. I will be taking it in for service to get it fixed.

You talking about taking it to a dealership for service? If you didn't have the extended warranty I'm betting they would tell you it needed a new engine. Since you do, I'm betting they tell you their ain't nothin' wrong with it.

Actually - neither is true. But be prepared to hear an ear full with all the legend and lies out there.
But whatever they do, insist they replace all the lash adjusters and roller/followers.

Why does Ford use plastic tensioners/guides and why aren't the tensioners self contained hydraulic with safety ratcheting? Not to bash Ford because I love my truck, but who in there right mind engineered this timing system?

The same guy that designed the spark plugs that placed the torque load on the ceramic insulator so the plugs would break off in the head. Any other questions?

"Their" right mind
