:good: my tone ring will be in tomorrow but I'm gonna wait for my cousins next off day to put her back together...things go soon much quicker with him helping!

Humor me with the final bill cost when you get done!

I will let you know that TDC is not required, but at TDC the cams "stay put" better to line the marks up.

The reason the chain is not staying tight while spinning by hand is because the tensioners use oil pressure to "pump up"

Once you start the engine it will put everything tight. I like to crank with the fuel pump disconnected for a few seconds first to build pressure before actually starting.

Let us know how it is after you crank it up.

Good job on the DIY

Thanks for the quick reply Steve. I forgot to clarify that the variation in chain tension is along the fixed guide not the tensioner guide. It gets really tight at some positions and sags away from the fixed guide at others. Should I be concerned or is this typical?

Thanks again!

Thats fine, you will not have to worry about it as long as your marks are bang on

This isn't a sticky yet????? This is the best source for this repair I have ever come across. Please make this a sticky moderators!!!
It needs to be at an easy reach for those of us who are preparing to, or are currently undergoing this essential overhaul procedure..thank you!

I would pull the pan down and look. You might have a bad sludge issue
How would I fix the sludge issue, clean out the pan and do a flush of some kind. Also would the vct solinoids maybe be causing this issue. The tech at ford said he has heard of people using thicker weight oil to quite the problem, but I don't think that would help it from stalling also would it?

When is yours stalling??? Mine was stalling when it started knocking and I came to a stop, only stalled at full idle. When I broke into my engine the sprocket on the front of the crank that electromagnetically helps control idle was chewed the fug up...
