Yes, it should do better under load because it has more power than the 4.6.
My F150 has the 5.8, so factor that into the comment I made about my hauling my atv.

I own a 4.6 STX, and I can pull anything a 5.4L can. But, not to sound like I'm cheating, but I have an Edge Programmer that I leave on Level 2 (Tow Mode) on 89 octane and I havnt had any problems. HTe most I've hauled around is a John Deere Gator with an AG. Water Tank, and a 40 horse John Deere Tractor. I don't pull them often, put when I did, I felt like I still ahd pedal left, thats until I hit a hit with a good grade, then it took me a minute.

It all depends on your load of pull, if your going to do alot of towing, then go for the 5.4L, if not, then head with a 4.6L. You might want to check on here with all the ppl, and find out all the problems that are associated with the 5.4L. Jus saying.
