ferguson, the back of the rear seat comes out quite easily. takes about 5 minutes. here are a couple good links

down firing subs are supposed to sound a little better because of the reburveration (sp?)

the black box is one of the amps i installed. the one behind the seat runs the speakers and the amp under the rear seat runs the subs.

Hey hc i built my own box it really isn't that hard to do just took time! I only needed a table saw and belt sander and a nail gun. I built my own box because i saw jl audio's stealth box which is like the same setup im running but w/ only one sub. I simply wanted more. However you may want to look into this, check out any place that sells jl audio and ask about the stealth box. they come w/ custom matched carpet and sub ready to drop in and they do sound amazing. I saw on some other sites there are boxes that fire down. I know that supercrewsounds had some but i don't know what subs u want to run so you'll have to check the fit. f.i.y. for people putting the amp behind the seat. On some trucks with the motorized rear window the motor for the window is back behind the rear seat too. But there is plenty of room on the passenger side.

As far as why i think pointing the subs down is better. Go up to any audio store and look at some of the box you'll see that some have the sub completely enclosed expect for some ports to let the air flow and you'll also see that the subs that fit into these boxes are usually smaller sub. This is becuase the air hits the walls of the box and then reverberates out and most of the time they sound pretty damn good and alot louder then one my think (Even look at some high end install jobs they do the same too). Another thing i saw was guys pointing the subs into the box so it looks as if the sub is in backward or installers even completely inclosing them in plexy. Some may think its dumb however, if you talk to some of the installers they will tell you its not only for looks but also it sounds louder. Now a traditional box works good in a trunk because the sound hit the walls of the trunk and reverberates out. However the game is different because the subs are directly in the seating area. I found that if the subs ponit up in my truck they sound complete different then if they point down and i like the way they sound better pointed down. Another thing is why would jl audio(a pretty high regard company in car audio) point there subs down(i would speculate that if that because of the R&D they do)! That is why i have my subs pointing down, just my reasoning.

I have my 2 JL audio 10w1v2's downfiring being pushed by a JL 500.1 amp. It sound awsome. It wont make your ears bleed, but it sounds awsome. I have black leather so I got a subbox that has a bed liner on it. That way I can just fold up my seats and through crap on top of the box without having to worry about tearing up ****. I also have eclipse 5x7's with a kicker 350.4 amp. The combo sound crazy good. Good install man.

Default Speaker Wire

When putting the aftermarket speakers in the F150 did you use stock speaker wires in the door or run new wiring?

Default reuse of speaker wire

Depends what your doing but i would replace it no matter what (just the way I am i don't like to take shortcuts but i like to overkill things). If you running an amp for the door speaker you will need to becuase of the configuration and amp location. BTW I would highly recommend getting an amp for the doors if you not!
