Bucko, this exact thing has happened to my truck on a few occasions, as well. I was thinking it had something to do with either key position when re-fueling, or...get this... the seatbelt. After this happened a few times, I started taking note of things. As weird as it sounds, I think it only happens when my seatbelt isn't on/connected. Of course, this is just a circumstantial wild guess. However, I have found that if I start my truck without my seatbelt on, I get a 'low oil pressure' warning and tone for about a second as the engine turns over and starts. Very strange.

Well, Ford claims that I need a new cluster. I told them to go themselves because they said it would run me $800. So I'm thinking when I have some time I'll drop the $100 or so at a shop to get it diagnosed and fixed. I couldn't find any loose wires under the connection, but I'm not really privy to electrical stuff. I even tore off the lower half of my dash to see if I could get to the solders, but didn't want to screw anything else up.

There has not been a need for me to check this connector for any failure of an electrical circuit that is bound to this connector.

My cover seems to be attached with rivets. Is that standard or perhaps a sign that someone has messed with this before?
