Default Fan clutch can hardly turn when cold is it bad

I have an 06 and I can hardly turn the damn clutch. When cold I would think it should spin freely. It has the thermostatic switch. It seems to be already locked. How easy are the other clutches out there?

It shouldn't turn much when cold. The general rule is less that a 1/4 turn if you try to spin it by hand. Some say that thermo clutches can't be tested like this alone and suggest getting the motor up to temp, shutting it off, and counting the spins after shut down. If it spun more that 3-4 times, they suggest replacing it.

Well that makes me feel better. I still have to paint the dang thing. It's all rusty and corroded. the rest of the motor is too damn pretty now.

I bought a new fan clutch and found it hard to turn as well. I guess my old one is fine. I will be upgrading to a elec in the future. It must waste quite a bit of power to turn the fan clutch
