Cost for dealership to reset timing?
Whats the going cost for the dealership to take a running (but misfiring) 5.4l that is out of time and replace say the chains and reset the timing?
Got mine back from getting the valve cover gasket replaced and everything else reassembled from having to dig a chunk of sensor plastic that fell into the timing cover.
Verbal codes pulled at parts store (no numbers given)
-engine speed mismatch
- over retarded bank 1
I had replaced the guides and was paranoid that the chain might have jumped a tooth and that seems to be the case.
How much room is there before damage occurs? 1 link or if it moves at all some damage will occur?
I imagine they will want to run a compression test as well.
Thanks

OK so some ham fisted tech went in and screwed everything up, now you are going to drop it in some dealer tech's lap and say "fix it"?
It is one thing when you get a vehicle with a problem, it is another when you get a vehicle someone has already attempted to fix, or screwed up an attempted fix.
my suggestion? Bring lots of money, there isn't going to be a flat rate on this, they are going to charge you actual hours.
you are asking them to do basically VCT replacement labor and deal with any screw ups
once you are that far in I would have them do the vct's as a preventative measure since you are that screwed.

OP, personally, I think you can go back in and get it timed yourself without turning it in to a dealership, you have gone through most of the process already, just need to do it again and fully remove the valve covers to try to get it right. There are a lot of us that can assist if necessary. Just my 2 cents.

I am but with winter closing in and still being outdoors and on a incline now I just don't see me getting this done quickly enough to finish before winter hits.
If I don't pay a shop to fix it it's probably going to end up sitting until spring.
