Default Factory radio question

Just bought my son his first truck. It's a 2004 XLT screw one owner with 97,000 miles. The radio doesn't have an auxiliary input and I was wondering what year this was added and if I find a stock unit with this, can I plug and switch?? If so any someone has one, feel free to inbox me. Thanks in advance.

i also have an 04. They didn't start the auxiliary input jacks until 2006/2007 I believe. I may be wrong but I do know they werent available in 04. There shouldn't be too much trouble if you can find one to switch out but that might be expensive also. There are aftermarket harnesses you can find through google that will add the aux cable to the factory radio but that gets expensive also. I went with the ford brand "trip tunes." It was $40 at the dealership, easy to instal and used the antenna. The quality was decent, but I have since just resolved to buying an aftermarket deck. Which turns out is the most cost effective thing to do. Good luck.

Do your son a big favor and buy a aftermarket radio with bluetooth (they also will have auxillary and usb inputs most the time). Very simple to install too.

I'd say that's fair. You bought the truck, he can buy the radio! X3 on getting an aftermarket radio. They're pretty cheap these days. Unless you get touch screen or something else that's not needed for a 16 year old.
