Default Factory LSD vs. Detroit Truetrack

I have an 06 F150 with the 9.75 and 34 spline factory LSD. During the last 3 snowstorms here in the midwest I got frustrated with getting stuck and put a Truetrack in my front axle (8.8) and love it. I was just curious how the factory LSD differs from a truetrack? Does it use gears or clutches? I think a truetrack will be an upgrade and give me better traction in the snow. I would consider a selectable locker as long as I don't have to drill into the housing. I don't think OX makes anything for F150's.
