Default Front hub ratcheting 2004 SC F150

Help, anyone. I pulled onto a patch of muddy grass to pull a u-turn, and just as I pulled onto the grass I turned the drive selector to 4HI, I waited about one and a half seconds before hitting the gas with little bit of eagerness while the wheels were turned almost fully to the left hoping to get a little bit of a fish-tail. I guess it wasn't yet engaged. I heard a light thud and a grinding/ratcheting noise. From that point the front wheels would not engage into four wheel drive, not 4lo, not 4hi. Nothing, just the rear wheels and a ratcheting noise. The 4HI light would turn on, but the 4LO wouldn't, even when I switched it to 4LO(just the 4HI light). I lifted the front wheels when I got home to investigate and found that the driver side wheel could be turned without the driveaxles turning along with it, this is accompanied by the ratcheting inside the hub. But when the passenger side wheel was turned the driveaxle went with it, and I could hear the noise coming from the driver's side hub.

Can anyone tell me what the heck I did to my truck. Any comments on what to fix, and how difficult is it to fix for the typical backyard mechanic. And anything else you give would be appreciated. It's a 2004 4.6L SC.

And I know, next time I won't be so eager. Thanks in advance. Cheers
