Default F150 Lag?

So my truck seems to have a bit of a lag issue when accelerating from a stop. Has this been a normal issue with these trucks? My buddy has an 05 and it seems to have a bit more pep off the line. All he has done is add a magniflow exhaust (same as mine). His rear ratio is different than mine (4.10 vs 3.73). I guess that could be the reason his has a bit more pep. At speed everything seems fine. Although sometimes i wish it would kick down a little faster when passing. Towing seems to be no problem. Any suggestions?

The lag is normal for the newer F150s. This can be resolved with a tuner. Dual exhaust helps a little but the tuner will take it away completely

Yes it is a known issue...you have a computer driven throttle or "drive by wire"..the older F150's like my '02 have a throttle cable. I have instantaneous response when I accelerate but the 04+ models have a delay built in by Ford in the tuning. I do not like it at all!

I only have 260HP compared to your 300+ but I am convinced I will get you off the line...don't know how long I can maintain the advantage in a race (if at all) but it sure FEELS better! LOL...wanna race & see?

Good news is you can easily tune your delay out & have the best of both worlds. Ford did it to soften the drivetrain stress I think & control how the tranny shifts for better mileage or longevity.

Thanks guys for your response. A tuner is in the works. I am taking a look at the gryphon tuner.

PHP is in the works for getting a live tuning event going out in CA sometime early 09 if you are interested.

Get yourself a good CAI and you will see a big difference at stop lights.

Oh yeah, I suggest a CAI and exhaust before a tuner anyways. Get the most bang.

Well looks like its time for that tuner. The only thing left to do is to convince the wife of the urgency to correct this horrible misfortune. I will now feel a bit of disappointment every time i drive my truck until this problem is fixed....think my wife will buy that sad line?

Adding a CAI will make a difference and you'll notice a definite improvement in throttle response. A tuner and some custom tunes will make an even bigger difference, but the best thing is to add both.
