Mine sounds this way also. Well, not exactly like the video/audio, but like a diesel. I am pretty sure from research that it is the cam phasers, but I am also pretty sure there is no reason to fix it unless you have performance problems. I will be leaving mine as-is, so I'll let you know in say 50K miles if there was any phaser-related issues that occurred.

One of my Buddies was telling me that it could be a collapsed Lifter... How could you tell? I researched a few collapsed lifters in different vehicles, and it sounds like the same thing in other peoples vehicles.. Could this be Possible??

Mine sounds identical. 04 5.4L Ive been told either the VCT or the Cam Phasers. Tasca Parts (www.tascaparts.com) parts sells the VCT's for around 100 each for the VCT and the plastic cap that seals around it. Thats where I am starting. Part # is 3L3Z-6M280-EA . Here is a external link on the replacement ( sorry f150forum.com) http://www.fordtruckclub.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4066

They all tick to a degree. That is not the cam phasers ticking. Cam phasers sound far worse then that. The phasers are operating normal. I just had mine replaced with brand new phasers, VCT solenoid sensors, 24 brand new lash adjusters as this truck does not have lifters, and new tensioners for the timing chain. Cost me 1600 bucks total. 850 for labor, and 811 dollars in parts. I got all my stuff of touslyfortparts.com for what the dealer pays for them. Paid 88 bucks for a VCT solenoid sensor and they both came with the rubber gaskets...
Can the phasers harm the truck? Yup sure can if that sucker jumps time to many teeth you're gonna need a new motor. If you're stupid enough to buy the stuff from your local parts department at the dealership then yeah it'll cost you ALOT more in parts, and even more in labor. I found a guy in this area that could do it.
There is no way a lifter can collapse and anyone who says other wise has no clue about a zero clearance motor. This truck for one does not have lifters, it has lash adjusters which all have to move, if one fails to move the valve will fail to open, or close and you will have catastrophic engine failure.
So again to the OP this is perfectly normal. It sounds just like mine after the phasers have been re-done. Which by the way I drove mine from 125k till 141k. If you use 5W20 and use the motorcraft oil filters the phasers will last a lot longer, and the new phasers are a new design as well as the VCT solenoid sensors...

cam phaser
i have a 2005 f150 lariat with 103,000 and it sounded just like yours, i took it to the dealership and was told the same thing, this is just how this type of motor sounds. the cam phaser was a lil warn out witch caused the noise. they said about 1,400 would replace them. so i did. they told me it wasnt something that had to be done. but i dont like the sound and it coudnt hurt to have a new part put in.well as far as the noise returning, mine is still running with no noise. if you lift the hood you can hear the injectors clicking but thats about it.

It sounds normal. The ticking sound is not phaser or VCT related, it is from the injectors and is normal for this engine.
Get used to it or trade it in. Don't throw money at something that isn't broken.
