F150 Engine Sounds Like a Diesel??
Hey guys, I bought this truck a few months ago and things seem to be getting worse the more I drive it. Its a 2004 F150 with the 5.4L Engine, I bought it at 106,000km and now it has about 113,000km. I replaced the oil with some synthetic 5w20 about 1000Km ago, and just did the spark plug change about 300Km ago ( 900$ Change >.< . 2 Broken Plugs and 1 Siezed Plug... Dont worry I replaced them with some Champion 1 Piece plugs.. ) The engine was making the noise within the first 4000K that I bought it, Before the oilchange and before the sparkplug change, but it didnt make that noise when I bought it... It only seems to run like this after she's warmed up and drove around abit.
Heres a video that I posted on youtube and what she sounds like, Maybe you guys could help me figure it out.. Ive been told that It could be a Timing Chain, or my exhaust is broken ( which i dont think it is, but I havent looked under the truck to even check it out ), or even the lifters...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ill post pics of the truck soon. As you can tell im a new member but been looking at this site since I got the truck.

That's just the way these VCT (Variable cam timing) engines sound later in their lives. A lot of people will tell you that it's the Cam Phasers, and this is true, but replacing them will be 75% of the cost of replacing the entire motor.
I had to do exactly this, and my phasers seized on me. If you replace them the noise will just come back in a short time. I hate to tell you that, but it's the truth.

My 08 with 63,000KM on it sounds similar. It bothers me eveytime I drive into my driveway and pass the house I can hear it the most. Or in a drive through fast food place. It just doesn't seem right to me and I always think my engine is broken. lol

My truck was making the same sound then about 25 miles after the dealer told me my truck was fine it blew up a new motor, intake, manifolds, and some packs later the truck runs like new. But I don't think when te intake manifold was taken off I didn't like seeing pieces of piston in there

so I dont know a whole lot about engines, and camphasers and stuff like that, and im sure I could research it, but maybe I could just get a quick answer.. What harm am I doing to my engine if I dont fix this right away?? Is it a hard job to do?? and is it pretty expensive to fix?? Ive just sunk 900Bones into fixing the F****** Sparkplugs and need my Vehicle to get around. I just dont wanna cause more damage and F S*** Up... I bought it at a Used Dealership Wholesale place so i doubt I have a good warranty on the engine if things do go wrong.

For awhile now. probably 10,000km to 20,000km. I'm told that these engines just sound that way. Being an 08 they weren't suppose to have any cam phaser issues.
Maybe I should take the truck in and get it checked out. I have power train warranty till 120,000km so it should all be covered.
