Default F-150 totaled with no injuries

Well it happened today, my first accident. My youth director and I were going to turn left into our church, so while I waited for traffic to pass so that I could turn left across the other lane (it was a 2 lane road) I was rear ended by a lady in a dodge minivan doing a considerable speed. I was stopped still in the road when she hit me but the hit propelled me about 25+ yards; my foot did come off the brake pedal which I believe helped to dissipate the momentum. As you can tell the frame is bent and the trailer hitch is about an inch from the ground. Also my airbags didn't deploy so I'm not sure if that's good of bad but neither my passenger or I needed them in our case. I didn't take any pictures of her van but I destroyed her front end. Her bumper was stuck to my trailer hitch and wedged under my truck. My bumper mount on the driver side was bent down and towards the passenger side. The frame above my rear axle was concaved inward on both sides. My bed floor is bulged about an inch or 2 up. I got the taco look now.

I'm gonna give a wild guess and say it's totaled (I'm being sarcastic), so seeing that I'm going to need something new I'm looking at my options. I've been looking at getting a 4 door jeep next year, however after this my dad said that a jeep is looking like an unsafe option. Therefore, it looks like my options aren't going to be as nice as this one depending on what insurance gives me. I wouldn't be surprised if this was my last Ford until after college due to my mom nagging about mpg. Had this not happened, I was just about to get new plugs and a much needed tune up in about a week which was quoted at being over $700 so I'm glad I waited on that project. I can't complain with what this truck did today, it did what it what supposed to do in a crash. If I can't get another F-150 now, then this one will surely not be the last.

Glad you were ok man. I've seen quite a few of these wrecked and they always seem to hold up really well all things considered.

On a different note, is it just me or are these trucks really popular with young kids between the ages of 17 and 19?

Forget what "your dad says" and buy what you want after researching safety reports. Too many Toyotas get purchased this way!

Really you can get hit from the back in anything so buy the Jeep if that is what you want unless you don't have a choice. Wait is he going to make you buy a Volvo? Subaru? I'm being facetious but you will be shocked how many time I hear that because of the 1980's.

The main reason I got my f150 is I've seen how fords (and occupants) survive crashes. I'm a crash deconstructionist for my PD so I've seen too many bad crashes and fords usually handle extremely well. Glad you guys are okay

I agree with 808f150! I as well work for a police dept in Missouri, and have seen many wrecks involving F-150s new and old! To be honest I've worked more than my fair share of what we LEOs refer to as 10/50s. I've NEVER had a fatality that involved an F-150, and around where I work, F-150s are a VERY common truck! All the way from early 80s up to the brand new 2015s. The most I've ever seen outta an F-150 was extremely minor to absolutely no injury. I may sound a bit bias toward the trucks cuz they are my favorite, but I can pull up crash report after crash report, and they have generally shown to be a suit of armor for the driver no matter what model. I worked a Head-on Rollover involving an 07 F-150 after an oncoming drunk in a Chevy Trailblazer came around a sharp curve and struck the F-150 with a husband, wife, and a 1 year old baby in a car seat in the rear of a SuperCrew. The F-150 was upside down after rolling down a ditch, striking a culvert pipe, and the bed striking an oak tree. The husband sustained a slight concussion with minor cuts from glass to his arms, and bruises. The wife had a few cuts on her arms and forehead from glass, and the baby was unharmed in the car seat. The truck was damn near wrapped around the tree. The trailblazer front end was completely crushed in, the motor was damn near shoved into the cab, and the drunk guy had to be cut from his vehicle. He was not wearing his seatbelt, And as usual with drunks...... He was completely and totally uninjured! Not a even a single cut or bruise! He blew a .270 Blood Alcohol Content, and from all the accidents I've worked, me along with Firefighters and Paramedics have no idea how this man coulda possibly lived judging by the amount of damage, let alone walked away unscathed. He shoulda been crushed! Sorry that was so long, but to explain the severity of the accident, I can't believe the F-150 held up as well as it did! I wish I could post pics from the police report, but I don't need to be fired for that lol.
