Default F-150 or bust

Hey guys,

I am new here and iVe been apprecieating all the good info you guys have to offer. I am in the market for a truck I want a supercrew 04-08 but im finding the cost of these trucks used are still pretty high for example I seen a 06 fx4 with 110k for just under 20k. I just think thats alot of miles for that kinda cash. Any one picked up a high mileage truck and had luck ?? any info will help

Are you dead set on a FX4? I got my STX 4x4 with 53k for 13,9. Sure it's barebones but it was cheap and low mileage.
But yes, the value on these trucks has seemingly gone up lately.

Just bought a 2006 ford f150 supercrew lariat. 90k, $18250 I researched and looked for months. These trucks 04-08 are priced extemely high right now. Where i live they stay on the dealership lot for about 3 days untill they are gone. especially the fx4's. Yes they are priced high, but they last forever. You could get a dodge for much cheaper, but of course dont do that. they are really cheap because nobody wants them because they are junk everyone wants an F-150 so they jack up the price. Its hard to find an 04 or 05 with less than 90k miles. Alot of these trucks are beat up too. I test drove about 13 used trucks before i got mine. I wanted a fx4 but they were all beat up. I had to get a lariat just to get a truck that had been taken care of. Look for trucks with history reports, if its an 04 or 05 listen for a bad cam phaser, its a ticking sound. Feel how it rides, check to see if to pulls side to side, check that the transmission shifts at the right rpms, check 4x4. These were all problems i ran into with the trucks i test drove. Take the oil cap off, does it have gunk on the top inside? If it does than theres probably gunk all in the engine. I was only looking to spend $15,000 on my truck, but i had to spend a bit more to get one in good condition. If theres a trailer brake box, its probably been used for heavy towing, could be a bad sign for the transmission. Look on the underside to see if theres alot of rust or mud, my truck is almost spotless underneath. Try to find a private seller they are usually cheaper than the stealership.

Yeah, FX4 and Lariat models really hold their value where I live. I lucked out with mine, got it for $15,500 2004 FX4 with 80K miles. Plus, it was already leveled and has a Borla dual exhaust system. I looked for 4 month and a lot of them were beat up and had over 120K miles and were going for $18k+. I also looked at Titans, Tundras, Chevy and Rams. It came down to F150 and Tiatns. But I went with the F150 because I like it more.

Keep your eye out for something with lower miles. I don't know what part of the country you're in, but up here in the Northeast there seems to be a small difference in price between high and low mileage f-150's. Even a year or two newer seems to only cost a grand or two.

At least that's what I've seen for the last year.

Day before Thanksgiving i bought a 2005 Supercrew XLT with 68,000 miles

factory chrome package with billet grill...A.R.E. fiberglass tonneau cover painted to match...LED brake lights...K&N intake system...babied by 2 older owners both over 55...

Originally on the lot for $19,990...watched it sit and sit and sit...price dropped down again to $17,990 then again to $15,990...the day before I went to look at it they dropped it to $14,970...drove down the next day and paid $14,470...hell of a deal in my opinion. My brother is a FORD mechanic so i had him check with the VIN for any warranty work thru the dealerships...no problems...truck is in great shape...I bought it in Tampa, Fl. The truck was the cheapest i found doing a 300 mile radius search online.....i think I got lucky

Yea that was definitly luck!!! I am in mich and I work for Ford so ima blue oval suckers i guess ( f150's just look so good) I seen a bunch around here but they are all high miles and thats what im scared of but like you guys say a well maintained truck can last forever. I like the FX4 the best They just look so mean but the price is gotta be right. The sad part is that ima trying to buy a cheaper truck because our insurance rates are terrible here ( go figure that Motor city and all). Thanks for all the info much appreciated

That seems like a ton for a truck with that many miles. I know these trucks hold their value, but still. As an example, last February I got my 2006 F150 with 47k, supercab, XLT, 5.4L for only 13,900. Beautiful truck with one owner who took excellent care of it. Some people say o got a deal because its Red and no one wanted it. But every region is different and these trucks have lots of options which will make the prices range. But to answer your question I hear these trucks are very reliable and last forever which is one of the reasons I bought it.
