Exhaust sound question... Help!
This will probably sound like an easy question to answer for some, but I'll admit, I'm very ignorant when it comes to cars/trucks. I just put a Flowmaster 40 Series muffler on my 2005 STX 4.6L, in hopes for a deeper sound. When i did the swap it was deeper but not quite deep or loud enough for my liking. I dont want is SUPER loud and obnoxious, but i want that sweet spot in between. So my question is, will deleting the cat make this happen? or will it ruin the decent sound i have already?

I have no cats in my truck with Flowmaster Super 10 mufflers and Thunder is LOUD! Has a great rumble to it at idle too. Just have to be easy on acceleration when around cops, lol. I used to have Super 40s but I wasn't impressed by them either, but deleting your cats WILL make a noticeable increase in sound.

The 40 Series is a loud muffler. A Flowmaster Super 44 would have given you a deeper tone and been about the same volume level. A Super 10 will be louder and higher-pitched/raspier than what you have now. Sound is definitely subjective and what you think is loud or deep or too raspy, may not be to someone else. As a general rule, deeper sound will be achieved with a larger muffler. A larger case muffler, like a Flowmaster Super 50 Series, will also be quieter. It is a trade off.

Dude cut the muffler off, do a Y pipe to dual tips or a single turndown at the axle if you want it that way. But will probably cause drone... Can always get another pipe ran for true duals. But if you want loud but not too loud, keep the cats and put straights on it. I got a 5.4 and i will never look back on my decision. It's far from obnoxious it sounds like a wet dream.
Before with VX Dual Exhaust
After with Dual Straights
