Default exhaust reccomendations

So I am looking for a mean, mean *** rumble when its at idle, and a nice roar during acceleration, however I dont want it too loud while im cruising on the highway and all...
straight pipes arent an option.

anybody have any ideas?...i have an '05 5.4 so if u know what will **** off my neighbours/passengers let me know pleeeease!

oh ya and to get it started i plan on doing cat backs

well what i had on my truck was straight pipes until i left my truck at my dads house for about a month when my b-day was close i left him the keys if he needed to use it for sumtin and well he did he put a exhaust on it for my bday lol i wasnt mad at him its the thought that counts but it was so much quieter lol he got his buddie to bend up a exhaust for free with a super 40 flowmaster in it, it sounds ok but im cuttin the muffler out and putting a slp loud mouth 1 in its place with a y pipe to go to my duals. they are ok for a old man just wanting a nice lil rumble but for a real truck it needs a race muffler like what im gonna use

well for one ive heard ill get fined to death for having straight pipes cuz it will be too loud...and second, ive been told ill lose a lot of back pressure so performance will suffer
just out of curiousity, what exactly makes up straight pipes?

the way mine is ran is its cut off right after the cats and has 2 3/4" pipes all the way back. like i said, ive never had any problems with the cops, and i get compliments all the time on how it sounds. i didnt loose any performance when i did it either. i run my truck in the 1/4 mile every time i do something to it and i just about stayed at the same times. it was slightly better. i didnt have time to check the MPG's before i got the intake but with the intake and exhaust, i gained 2+ MPG's.

p.s.- it wont be TOO loud unless you get high flow cats and headers. then you might have a problem with the cops.

well i doubt ill be touching the headers and all, i just want that straight pipe sound...im gona have to check with the mechanic cuz here in ontario theres so many pollution regulations and **** so ill just get all the info from them i guess...since they would be the ones installing it anyway

thanks for the info tho, id rather have the straight pipe sound than the clean muffler sound..i like the rumble better
