Default Exhaust Question.

Ok first of all I have a 2007 F150 4.2 V6 my question is simple, I would prefer people not posting "Well V6 sucks you need a V8 if you want sound" my question is simple all I want to know is currently on my truck I have two cats going to a Y-pipe and hitting my flowmaster 40 series dump. Would it make much difference in sound if i cut off the y-pipe and came off each cat with its own pipe and hitting 2 flowmasters? or would it not make much difference? also I've heard this many different ways but which is louder.... a dump off the muffler or coming off with a y-pipe and taking the tips out to the back of the truck?.

Thanks for advice.

Well if go dual mufflers they can be alot smaller per side but there is a legal noise limit normally in most states. Turn downs will help spread the noise which makes it a tad less on the db meter from behind. To change the sound you will have to figure out which brand and internals that you prefer. I'm not sure if baffles or chambers are the loudest. You can try searching you tube for sound clips or call different manufacturers to see what they recommend for the type of sound you are looking for.

well I like the flowmaster sound I was just wonderimg if taking out the y-pipe and adding another muffler would make that much of a difference in sound.

It wouldn't make enough difference for you to spend the money on. Maybe if you swapped it out for a louder muffler.

if your wanting loud...ditch the muffler... and run it out the back...the truck will still be not so loud intill you get after it..... i have a 02 4.2 with a catback 2.5inch from cat back into 3inX22in chrome tips 45 degree out the back.... and on my 08 i just took the muffler off and added pipe... and its louder than my 02... and it sounds even more like a v6... i love the way it sounds and its all factory pipe except were my pipe is inplace of muffler
