It's not the hoist your thinking of... this one is braced on the top of the fenders and the radiator support

Interesting. Definitely makes me weary of the job now. Especially since that's not even a hoist I could use on multiple vehicles I own. Although I suppose a normal engine hoist would still get the job done but I haven't decided if hoisting the engine is worth the trouble of LT headers yet.

Well to give you an idea of what can be accomplished in about 8 and a half hours time with tools that every man 'should' have (no hoists, lifts, etc) with maybe slightly above average mechanical skills...

I got the top four manifold bolts loosened (enough to where I can finger loosen them the rest of the way out), the top and bottom starter screws un done (still can't get the starter to budge), and broke those flange bolts.

Well turns out the bottom rear manifold studs are broke. Gonna do this the previously mentioned ford approved way. Also going to order some headers, any recommendations?

Figure if I'm gonna be pulling the motor I might as well get a gain from it

LTs would be nice but I can't afford that. Just ordered some JBA Shortys from auto anything and a new muffler for about $560 with free shipping.

Now to find a thread about pulling the motor

Bumping this again.

My truck has 74K on it currently, while I have the motor lifted up a bit and the manifolds pulled off, should I look into replacing anything in particular? I've read the spark plugs are an issue with these trucks, would doing it now be a good idea or should I wait for higher mileage? I don't have any issues with the truck that I would attribute to spark related, but if I have them easily accessible then I might as well, right?

EDIT: also I broke a plastic hose that ran from the valve cover by the oil dipstick to the air intake tube and am having trouble locating a part number for it to get a new one. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Yes! This will be the easiest time to replace the spark plugs! That is when I planned on doing mine was when I was planning on installing my LT Headers.

K so I have my RH manifold taken off and I am trying to figure out how to fix this little issue. That's the bottom, rearmost stud broken off at an angle inside of the hole

Anybody have any ideas on how to remove this?

Small, air angle grinder....grind it flat then center punch it and drill it out....I prefer LH bits, they sometimes grab after ya get down in sometimes and twist the broken stud out....be very very very careful though, don't wanna drill into the water jacket....that's a whole other can't of worms....and, yes, I've done this many many times in the past and NO, I don't wanna do it again...haha...if I lived closer I'd give ya a hand
