Here's the broken flange bolt


Here's the top starter bolt that I can't get loose to save my life


Any advice on either of these two issues?

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01.
  1. Remove the throttle body (TB). For additional information, refer to Section 303-04C.
  1. Remove the 3 bolts and position the power steering fluid reservoir aside.
    1. Remove the generator. For additional information, refer to Section 414-02.
    1. Remove the upper radiator sight shield.
      1. Remove the 2 bolts, release the cooling fan shroud from the bottom of the radiator and position the cooling fan shroud away from the radiator.
        1. Install the special tool.
          1. If equipped, remove the 4 bolts and the skid plate.
            1. NOTE: RH shown LH similar.
              Remove and discard the 4 exhaust Y-pipe flange nuts.
              1. Remove the 2 exhaust Y-pipe-dual catalytic converter hanger bracket bolts from the crossmember.
                1. Loosen the 2 transmission mount nuts.
                  1. Remove the starter. For additional information, refer to Section 303-06.
                  1. Remove the 2 RH engine support insulator nuts and washer.
                    1. Remove the LH engine support insulator bolt.

                      1. Using the special tools, raise the engine.
                        1. Remove the RH inner fenderwell. For additional information, refer to Section 501-02.
                        1. Remove the 3 A/C compressor bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
                        1. Remove and discard the 4 lower exhaust manifold nuts.
                        1. Using a commercially available stud remover, remove and discard the 4 lower exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head studs.
                        1. Remove and discard the 4 upper exhaust manifold nuts.
                        1. Remove the RH exhaust manifold and discard the exhaust manifold gaskets.
                        1. Using a commercially available stud remover, remove and discard the 4 upper exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head studs.

                        This is the ford approved method, the special tool referred to is a top side engine hoist

                        Are you kidding me? I'm gonna need a hoist to install the LT Headers?! Geez I've been wanting one but was gonna wait till I started modding the Trans Am for that. I wonder if Oreilly's rents the hoists on their floor? LTs don't sound like such a great idea all of the sudden.

                        Fawk man, it's hard to tell if the way I've been doing it is the hard way, or the way you just posted is the hard way.

                        No wonder the dealer always wants so much cash for it.

                        Thanks for the info though, that gives me some more options to look into tomorrow.

                        the dealer I work for charges 5 hours per side plus 1 hour for each broken stud.
