[1] Where drive shaft meets rear differential, seems to be leaking. Ford replaced my driveshaft a couple months ago but I just noticed this. Is there a seal in there? Something ford should replace? I have an extended warranty.

[2] I noticed a noise when ever I hit a speed bump or any bump in the road from the rear drivers side. Today I was looking around and I walked up to the die of my truck tire (rear drivers side) grabbed the tire and shook in back and forth (not front to back) and as I did that a hollow sound, kinda like squeaky door coming from the hub of the tire. Kinda like the tire was lose but all the lug nuts are tight. Seems like to much play in the tire.

Video here (the sound is much louder in real life):

First off, when you had your driveshaft replaced, they should not have done anything to effect that seal. When you do a Ring & Pinion swap, thats when this gasket comes into play. If you are under warranty, I would take it in. You are losing oil from the diff and eventually can burn up those gears. As far as the YouTube video, I'm at work and can't comment. Sorry but hopes this much helps.

Pretty sure its the pinion seal leaking...if you un-bolt your drive shaft theres a pinion nut...remove the nut and the seal comes out and re-place it with a new seal...this is where your losing rear end oil...Pretty sure the sound you hear is the front wheel bearings plus you stated the front tire moves...not good...get it fixed ASAP

Those are the rear tires. You think they would be covered under warranty?

I looked on my service report when I had it in a couple months ago and this is what they replaced:

- Rear Axle Differential Clutch Pack
- Rear Axle Seals replaced
- Drive shaft replaced
- Drive shaft slip yoke had metal, replaced
- Lubed drive shaft

Doing any of the above, would that require them to remove or mess with the pinion seals?

with the clutch pack the would have had to open the rear end. it is the pinion seal leaking, but not sure why it would so quick. the video sounds like your exhaust rattling or something

the rear end they may have over filled it with gear oil which inturn could have blown the seal or maybe over torqued it when they put it back together which would make the seal not seat properly and leak!! maybe...also check to mAke sure the rear diff breather is not plugged up thats where i would start!!

as for the wheel squeek i would start with the easy things it could be like exhaust swaying around and rubbing/hitting on something or the spare tire being loose somehow etc etc just crawl under there and have a friend shake the truck around while you inspect andy moving part that may be making the noise!! after that it could be suspension related via bad shock bad leaf spring or shackle and just to be safe make sure your wheels are seated corectly and torqued correctly!!

So truck went to dealership this morning and just got the call...

Seal was replaced however the play in the rear tire and sound I hear when going over a bump is normal..."they claim". They say the play was compared to another few trucks and they all have the play. They say it's more noticeable by me doing it because I have oversized tires so the sway of rocking back and forth as shown int he video is easier to do.

Looks like I'll be headed to NTB to have my oil changed and tires rotated and see if they can take a look and get a second opinion.
