The cost of replacing an engine can vary greatly. Labor can easily add up and cost the same as the engine.

Factors to consider:

Other wise the mechanic might just put the old ones back in.
This is a 2004, is there a recall I can try to re-coop some cash? He said he had no clue why the injector was dumping fuel into it.

What is the reason
for this additional

The fuel injectors in your vehicle may stick in the
open or closed position.
This condition could cause check engine light illum

starting or rough running, and in some instances co
uld result in damage to
other powertrain components. In the interest of cu
stomer satisfaction, Ford
Motor Company is extending the limited warranty on
the Fuel Injectors to a
total of 11 years or 120,000 miles from the warrant
y start date, whichever

This coverage exceeds the original warranty coverag

What will Ford and
your dealer do?
Ford Motor Company has authorized your dealer to di
agnose and replace

the terms of this program.
How long will it

the time needed for the
repair is less than one-half day. However, due to
service scheduling
requirements, your dealer may need your vehicle for
a longer period of time.
In addition, diagnosis is required prior to determi
ning if parts need to be
ordered
.
What are we asking
you to do?
Please keep this letter as a reminder of the extend
ed warranty coverage for
your Fuel Injectors. If your vehicle exhibits chec
k engine light illumination
along with a hard starting or rough running conditi

you contact your dealer for a service appointment.
If one of your fuel
injectors
requires replacement, and your vehicle is within th
e indicated
time/mileage limitations, your dealer will replace
the injector at no charge to
you.
PLEASE NOTE:
This extended coverage program only applies to fu
el
injectors that are stuck open or closed. This prog

If all other
warranty coverage has expired, you will be responsi
ble for the

You need more info on the reman engine. Is it a short block, long block, or complete engine? does it have injecters, plugs and coil packs. all of these will greatly affect the laber cost as well as the quality of the of the install.

So I have 187k on the motor so I'm pretty much Effed? The thing is I brought the damned thing into a Ford Dealership two weeks before because it burnt a plug in that cylinder. I told him I just changed the plugs less than 5k ago so if this is a known problem why wouldn't he have checked that out? And since he didn't do I have any recourse?

I don't see that you would have any possibility of recourse. You're so far out of warranty. Think of it like I am having to- after a couple hundred thousand miles you've gotten your money's worth outta the motor. Right or wrong it makes me feel better when I think of it that way LOL

The fact it's a known problem and the ford dealership did not diagnose it pisses me off. At this point I plan on just fixing cheap as possible trading it in for a damned nissan Titan!

Why fix it just to trade it in? you will never recoupe the repair cost in trade value. If it runs even with a miss the Nisson dealer isnt going to resell it it will go to auction or the scrap yard withe that mileage

I figure a used engine and install will cost $2,000-$2,500. Trade in probably $5,500 or sell out right for $7,000. Either way I'm ahead more than not fixing it.

Now that Toyota is the most American made truck it pisses me off more when I find out that a known issue like this doesn't have a recall. Why spend 15% more on a ford when I can get maybe a better truck for less?
