An easy way to check the MAF is simply to unplug it then start the truck up. The pcm has strategies to use other sensors to determine the amount of air going into the intake. That way instead of using a bad MAF reading it will run right off the other sensor readings. The MAF is in the right side of the air box behind the air filter.

Also this might help http://www.truckmodcentral.com/forum...ad.php?t=13670 It has some pretty good pictures and descriptions.

I took it to my ford dealership to have the check engine light diagnostically tested and ford said there were no codes showing anything wrong and that it runs fine...and it absolutely doesn't...any ideas on what the issue could be or a solution?

did you ever find out what the problm was? if you could tell me what you did. thanks

problem--------after you drive truck on the highway for 25 minutes or more, and you then get off the highway. the truck will want to stall out when you come to a stop. i makes a loud ticking noise and loses power. ford dealership says it is lossing oil pressure in right side of engine. which is causing acculater not to work can anyone help me to fix this problem 05-27-2012 11:54 PM

I believe I am having the same issue. The problem started on Friday and has happened three or four times. When I come to a stop the RPM's drop and the engine makes a loud knocking/ticking sound. As soon as I give it some gas everything returns to normal. So far I have no check engine light and no codes have been thrown.

I just had the plugs and fuel filter changed last week so I was hoping it might have something to do with that. I heard that coil packs commonly need to be replaced when doing the plugs so perhaps it's a bad coil pack?

The knocking/ticking sound is what has me the most concerned. Is it normal for the engine to make this sound when it's about to stall? I can imagine the oil pressure would drop when RPM's are below normal and the VCT system wouldn't be very happy about it so theoretically that might explain the ticking sound but I'm not sure.

I was gone for the weekend but plan to call the shop that does the work on my truck this morning. I'm hoping you guys can give me some input as well.

For those that had this issue, were you able to find the cause of the problem? Can you tell me what needed to be done?

Cheers.

I hadn't even considered bad gas. I have about a 1/4 tank remaining so it would seem strange for this to happen so suddenly. I drive the truck regularly and never had any problems with the first 3/4 tank with the same gas but I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is the problem. I shouldn't have to drain the tank though right? At 16mpg 1/4 tank won't last long

Can anyone answer if the loud knocking/ticking is normal on these engines when the RPM's drop? I have to admit it really freaked me out. I haven't driven the truck since Friday and don't want to until I get this figured out.

Thanks for the replies guys.

These motors always tick the first start up after an oil change because the oil drains out of the lifters and until they're pumped back up the followers slap the valve stems.

Default Any updates?

My 2008 is doing the exact thing. Did we ever find a fix for this? It is getting worse all the time.
Thanks!
