Electrical Gurus Emergency Question
We have a family emergency and will need to leave in the AM for a 14 hour trip. Our 40 year old son is dieing. This is not a good situation! I have to drive my '05 F150 w/5.4. I replaced the alternator 4 months ago with a new (not reman) one from Rock Auto. It's a new REMY 92551. There are no new alternators available to me before Monday and it's currently putting out 11 volts. Do you think it will make the drive? When I get to my destination I can find a shop the first of the week and get it replaced. Right now we need to get on the road.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to bother everyone here but I knew I would get good honest feedback. I'll deal with Rock Auto later. Right now we need to get on the road probably this evening.

The funny thing about this is I don't know how long it's been going on. I have taken two 8 hour trips the past two weeks without any indication anything was wrong.

Sorry to hear about your son, I hope things work out and he gets better. If it were me, I would try to rent a car if no other is available to drive but if you have to take the F150, I agree with the above, take a set of jumper cables, an extra battery and if possible, a jump start/charge box. To tell the truth, I usually take those things with me on a long drive even if I am not having any charging issues.
Good luck, let us know how it all turns out.

Things got delayed. I'll be picking up a reman alternator in an hour. I'll be sure to have them bench test it before I buy it. That way I'll know it's putting out 14 volts. Thanks for the good advice.
