Colder air is denser and there for contains more oxygen. You should see better numbers with colder charges.

So, your saying taking off the intake pipe would improve performance and fuel mileage.

what? like running in from the tb? hell no, your going to suck in a crazy amount of heat from the engine. i dont really think i understand your question to much. i dont know about mpg, because honestly people that worry about mpg arent worried about performance. and the only reason to get a performance mod, is to get better performance, mpg + or - is a effect.

You never want to remove the intake pipe off the TB....running without an airfilter is just asking for scored cylinders in no time. Yep, the drag cars do it, but they also rebuild the engine before each round!

Even a K&N filter won't add much (if any HP) unless you can get it in a "cool air" location. This is why the "AIRRAD" units are good; they have a box around the round filter, and it seals out the engine heat and locates the air filter by the front grill or fender opening where there's cool air.

We were talking about the tube that goes from the fender to the intake....not taking the whole filter housing off!!!!!

I was concerned about all the engine heat, when I pulled the intake tube off. It did not change anything except early am performance. ( when the engine, and air temp is cold)

I have worked in a number of different shops. Some of them speed shops. We have used K&N with no problems. I reccomend K&N to all my customers. I have K&N on my vehicles. My truck, although 2wd, goes offroad ALOT and I never have a dirty intake. Just the normal carbon in the intake. I amnot saying you are wrong totally, I just don't know what happened to the K&Ns you installed. I have heard the ATV shop not reccomend them if you are driving in alot of fine sand. I know one of the local race teams ran them on their off road race truck in the sand with no problems.

I have the K&N CAI on my 05' f150 5.4 Screw FX4. I went from 15MPG on the freeway just normal driving to around 20MPG and when I pull my 31ft. travel trailer I used to get only about 12MPG @65-70mph after I put on the K&N CAI I went up to about 15MPG towing it.
