some of the oil-free are good and some are junk....Amsoil has a nano fiber one that is great and AFE has one too.... AEM is garbage but its 10 x's better than the k&n

plus there is too much oil on them from the factory....they try and say its the consumer that oils them too much, but its them and the properties of their oil.... There are numerous other oiled filters on the market that filter better and take less oil and cause no issues because they use a different kind of oil
honestly man...i am realy getting tierd of hearing you bash certain products because you prob dont sell them, so until you can prove the oil is different, the filtration is poorer, and the oil is harmful then let me know and quit bashing other products unless you actually have something to back it up with...because by ford design the crank case vents oil directly into the intake track....

I don't sell any intake or exhaust....I don't sell any performance products at all....I talk from knowledge and experience in the business..... I am not a couch tech like a lot of guys, I have first hand knowledge.... I give no false information.... Whether its info I have found out first hand or information that has come to me from reputable sources, but I will never steer someone in the wrong direction..... BTW if I sold any intakes, I'd be pushing them left and right trying to get people to call me and buy them....there is only one product I do that for...can you guess what that is?

Think there should be a section for Blackbetty and DunesRunner08 to have it out. Just joking guys....
Anyways...I put the old oem filter back in and i am getting normal fuel mileage. Just waiting for the K&N to dry from cleaning the oil off. Once again, thank you all for your feedback. Will report back once i get it back in with a LIGHTLY oiled filter.

i have run k&n filters in alot of different products from atv's and bikes to cars and trucks with NO PROBLEMS! so since you speak from experience and not couch tech tell me why that is? a properly oiled and maintained k&n is still better than a paper filter.

where most people run into problems is when they do not properly maintain the product. so because you cite no actual proof i guess you can claim anything. let's see some facts from real sources to back up your claims.

I stay away from K&N by any means possible now so I have nothing in print.... however, when I was working in the offroad shops we had to clean out a bunch of intake manifolds and a bunch of MAS from intakes we put on..... these were oiled from the factory.... and had issues.... even on my motorcyle I refused to run the K&N and had to order a BMF filter from europe for it.... From this experience I always tell people to stay away.... like was said in another thread or this one I can't remember.... If you live in a climate with vry little dust you are less likely to run into the major issues but you are still at risk regardless.... If you like K&N and they have always worked good for you, then so be it, keep running it and ignore me....if you haven't run them before, listen to me and buy another brand

I have used alot of K&N's on differant vehicles over the years and had no problems what so ever.As long as they are properly oiled, you should not have any problems with them.I will have to agree with Blackbetty on this one DunesRunner08.

I myself toyed with the K&N vs Airraid CAI and went with the K&N since I got a deal on it and I am very happy with my purchase.

But for the other person,I would say over oiling or maybe the edge itself is causing the poor fuel economy.

Well, i had the edge installed before installing the K&N, and was getting about 15 L/100km, with a stock filter. But when i put in the K&N, I started getting worse...WAY WORSE. Thus, excluding the chip from the reason

BUT!!!!!As I said i was going to do yesterday was wash the filter, LIGHTLY reoil it and install it, then see how it performs. I did that, traveled 350km, and was getting about 14.9 L/100km. This was 95% highway driving at 120 km/h. This wasnt a HUGE change from the stock filter, but it is slightly better. About 0.5 L/100km or so. I wasnt expecting a huge gain, but what I wasnt expecting was getting worse fuel economy.
Once again guys, thanks for your help!!!!!!

I was trying to improve mpg , and removed the plastic tube going into the filter from the fender. it just made alot more noise. still getting 14 mpg. have the k&n installed. If I did not need the racks for work I would yank them off and get better mileage.
I wonder if having a hood scoop forcing cooler air around the engine would help. or if changing the aerodynamics would hurt mpg?

To tell u the truth, you should be getting worse mileage with the intake tube off, due to the hotter air your sucking in.....but i could be wrong. I would have to say that a force induction hood should give u better performance!!!
