Default Dumb question...how do you get offest?

When I put a 3" level or lift on my truck, with 33" tires & 18" XD Monsters, how do you get an offset? Is it something about the wheel size? And how much of an offset before the tires could rub?

Sorry for the dumb question

Offset comes from the placement of the wheel on the hub. Negative offset means that the hub will meet further to the inside of the wheel therefore giving you wheels and tires that stick out. The more the negative offset, the more wheel sticking out. The same goes for positive offset just in the exact opposite way.

offset is the distance from where the part of the tire that meets the hub to the edge of the rim... so a 9 inch rim with 0 offset would have 4.5 inches of backspacing. how wide are your rims? you likely want between 4.5-5.5" of backspacing which would be different offsets depending on the width of the rim

I am going to get 18" XD Monsters and 33" Nitto Trail Grapplers after I get a 3" or 2.5" level. What specs of the XD Monster should I get for the tire to stick out a couple inches?

thanks for catching that tech rep.

they are 18X9 right? I have 17X8's and with 4.5 inches of back spacing i have about an inch sticking past... so if you went with 5.5 you would have that same inch... anything less will make it stick out further

the nittos run wide... you might get more at 5.5 but you also might have rub. I know the 35x12.5's are really almost 13.5" and people rub on the upper control arms. also the 3 inch levels cause a lot more wear and tear compared to a 2.5.

First, no 3" level. 2.5" max or you'll be stressing out your whole front end too much. Other people disagree, but I've seen the angles on 3" levels in person and they're horrid. So definitely go 2.5" there.

I assume 4x4? That's the biggest thing that determines what you can fit.

According to KMC XD's website, 18x9 -12 Monsters are what you're looking for if you want the wheels to stick out. Offset merely determines how much the wheels will hug to the inside or stick out, depending on the wheel width. But from context clues, I feel like you're using the word "offset" in the same way that "stance" is used. So do you want the wheels to stick out?

Yes, it would be 18x9. So would this add that inch or two?

Backspacing 4.53 & 5.71

Nitto Trail Grapplers
285x65x18
Inf. Overall Diameter 32.83

I will do a 2.5" level, thanks! I have seen people put a level, then add a body lift to it. Does that cause harm?

2WD, and yes, I want the tires to stick out a little bit

Okay, I my 2006 with a 2" level is 2WD too. But you won't be able to handle the tires sticking out very far. I have 5.5" of backspacing on 20x8.5 +20 wheels with narrow 275/60/20 (33.0x10.8") AT tires, and I have like 1/8" of clearance from the untrimmed bumper valance. 5 to 5.5" backspacing fits the biggest tires, and we need it around there to fit full 33x12.5" mud tires like Nitto Trail Grapps. If you're gonna get narrower tires like 275 or 285mm wide, they'll fit better and be able to handle being stuck out a little more.

Body lifts don't really harm anything, but they need to be installed by yourself to be an economically viable way to add lift. Our trucks are a PITA and the labor on the install can exceed $1k, on top of the $600+ for the kit itself. I'll be putting on a 6" Fabtech this summer and I already want to a BL to the list lol. I just can't afford to have my truck down for perhaps 4 whole days installing all of that stuff vs. 2 days for the suspension.

This is a good thing to play around with:
