Default DuHa says NO (?) to group buy

The DuHa underseat storage system has been a topic here and on another F150 forum over the past couple of days. I decided there might be enough interest for a 'group buy;'

Based on comments on the two sites - read the original posts - no one spported their $200 price tag. I've aproached DuHa about a group buy at $100 each. Here is the reply...

From: Dan Ouren // DU-HA

Subject: RE: du-ha.com-DU-HA Website Form Submission

It's hard to believe that someone who spends 35-50 thousand dollars for a
Pick-up would complain about a $200.00 storage unit that is designed specifically for each truck model. We are a small company, we can't buy a million of them at a time, and we make them in the USA. You know the old saying, "you get what you pay for." If you would like to discuss this further feel free to contact me at any time.

DU-HA, Inc.

Please post comments - pro or con - and I'll share all with DuHa as a matter of customer feedback. Keep comments cordial and focused on this question...

Will you buy a DuHa at the $200 retail price?
Would you buy one in a forum group buy for $100?

Here's a link to the product FYI:

The reply seems a bit snarky. Not all of us bought new, or at full price if we did. As a businessman, I wouldn't have responded like that. I'd thank the consumer for their interest in the product and maybe offer 5% off for forum members or something.

The price seems steep, but half-price seems a bit over-optimistic on your part, even with a bulk-discount. Without getting a hands-on look at the product I can't tell if it's just a cheap molded plastic box with carpet glued on, or if it's a high quality craftsman-like product worth every penny of that $200.

Answering your question, I'm wouldn't buy it for $100. I have already crafted my own under-seat storage out of MDF and carpet. Took a few hours and about $25 in materials, and looks great.

hmm, i bought my '06 for a lot less than $35,000. around $30,000 less.

that reply was not the most tactful for a small company. "no" can be said in much nicer ways.

if the product is a quality, injection molded plastic, or similar, then i can see $200 being a fair price. a fair price for someone without the ability, or desire, to make something similar themselves.

which puts me out altogether. I had been thinking of underseat storage before i even saw this product. I can work metal, wood, or fiberglass well enough to make my own.

There is no way a small company could do 1/2 off, but I would have responded differently. He should have suggest a number of units and a price that he could do.

Very unprofessional in my opinion. How can he assume that every one who owns our generation of F150 paid 35-50 thousand for their truck? I sure as hell didn't. I will never consider buying a product from him.

Let me be fair here - I pitched the $100 price based on comments from the earlier post here - where there seemed to be agreement that $100 was the highest price the respondents said they would pay, myself included. That's why I approached them at that price.

His answer is not NO - as I read it, that's why the ? in the headline. He did offer to discuss it further. Could be a x number of units at x price deal can be made.

But I too was struck by the tone of his answer and that's why I've presented this as I did - I intend to share with him all comments received - it should serve as excellent customer research - a sort of focus group if you will. So again, keep comments cordial and let's see where this leads. If you have an interest in a group buy, please say so.

i looked at some more of the pics, and got a closer look. in my opinion, its worth $200. people pay more than that for a bed mounted tool box, which is just a basic rectangle with a lid.

This "duha" is form fitted, comes in mulitple, factory matching colors, is easily modified to fit specific hobbies, and can be locked. plus its made by Americans.

The $180 price tag seems fair to me(price listed on site for my truck). Looks well built. Custom fit. Color choice. Im a little cheap so spending the $180 prob wont happen however it does look worth the price. A group buy may generate more interest if the price dropped some but to say it isnt worth the original tag wouldnt be fair. Plus being plastic would help with the beach cloths and other wet items. Just dry it out later. His response does seem a little stern, but it's an honest answer. I bet it would have been worded different if you weren't asking for such a price cut. Ask him what he could do based of 25, 50, 75 units?

I don't think $179.95 is that out of line.

While the reply from the company could have been worded to show more appreciation for your interest, I can hardly blame them after you suggested that they sell it for 50% off simply because you "don't support that price." I am sure Mr. Ouren was eager to give you a "hell no" but softened the wording to what you received.

How many have they sold? I'm guessing quite a few if they are still in business. Not every product is meant for every F150 owner, but this product has found buyers that do support the price.
