Default DTC P1074 and P2197

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone could help shed some light on a DTC combination I'm getting on my 2006 F150 FX4 5.4l. I have 168k miles.

The other day, I got 2 simultaneous codes - P0174 (System too Lean Bank 2) and P2197 (O2 Sensor Signal Biased/Stuck Lean Bank 2 Sensor 1). The truck hesitates at idle, feels almost like a misfire.

I have found lots of information about getting 4 simultaneous codes that cover both bank 1 and bank 2 (P0171,P0174, P2195, and P2197), but I have not been able to find much about getting just the 2 codes I am getting on just one bank (bank 2). It seems like a vacuum leak is a common culprit for these codes. I'm trying to troubleshoot, looking for a vacuum leak on the drivers side, but have not been successful. I've sprayed carb cleaner over the vacuum lines but don't notice any change in RPM.

Shortly before these codes came up, the brakes and rotors were all replaced. I know the IWEs utilize vacuum lines and wonder if something may have been affected in the vacuum hoses behind the rotors during the brake job. I will have to look at those hoses in more detail tonight, but was wondering if anyone has had similar issues with these lean codes coming out of just one side of the engine? It's just odd that they popped up all of a sudden.

if it's not vacuum related, i'd check the bank 2 (passenger side?) exhaust manifold up to the 02 sensor and or the injectors

Default Solved

Right on the money. I hooked up a live data reader and saw that bank 2 sensor 1 was fluctuating mostly between 0.0 and 0.1 volts (sometimes higher, but sporadic), but the downstream bank 2 sensor 2 was reading significantly higher. I was going to swap the B2S1 o2 sensor with the B1S1 one (the one from the passenger side) to see if the code would also swap sides, but I couldn't get it removed. I ended up swapping in the downstream sensor with the suspected faulty upstream sensor, and it fixed the issue. Interesting though - I'm not getting a code for a fault on the downstream, although the live data shows that the volts are reading 0.0 or 0.1 on it. Maybe these trucks don't throw codes for downstream sensors? Odd.

I'd like to put in two new upstream sensors, but I can't get the (still good) sensor out of the pass side (bank 1). I sprayed PB on a cold exhaust, on a warm exhaust, and even let it soak for hours. Tried to remove the sensor with a 22m open key wrench when cool and when hot, but no luck. It's starting to strip so I don't want to force it too much. Luckily it still works, but any suggestions on how to get it out without having to drop the exhaust?

Lots of heat is usually needed to get them removed.
