Marine is doing well. Getting shipped out in Jan. UGH!!
Saving some money at the dealership. We are having them just replace what is needed and we will put the door back together ourselves. Hell, that is the easy part. Hopefully it will be done tomorrow. Have to go vote!

I have found one place that I can buy the window regulator unit, for $109.00 plus shipping. Anyone else have any suggestions?
As for the question on the manuals, I have had decent luck out of my Haynes manual when I need a quick reference.....that's just up to you if you get one or not.....I have found them pretty useful.

For those guys that have replaced this part by themselves - how long did it take you to do it? I want to make sure the dealership doesn't charge me too many hours to replace the part. I have already taken the door panel off. I know alot of places like to rip off people, and I don't want to be one of those that get ripped off.
wickedFX - you mentioned something about doing this. Can you shed some light on the time it takes??

Good question... For the specific door regulator issue, the manual basically offered the following help "remove regulator and glass. Install in reverse order". Not very helpful. (no pictures either)
However, I have found a manual is helpful for torque specs, tranny fluid changes, and other work I always end up doing. I always make it a point to get 'a' manual for each vehicle I have ever owned. That said, I am sure there are better ones out there.
For instance, I got a CD for my wife's vehicle for $10 which has the dealer shop manual on it. Not sure if there is a similiar product.

thanks for the amount of time. Price of the part seems to be the concern I will have then. On the web, one guy found it for $109 and then someone else went to the dealer and it cost ~$450. I didn't buy the extended warrenty, so it is all out of pocket expenses.
I don't think I will get a manual. I have the son that is a mechanic and he has a book on his truck, which we used to get the panel off. Granted he is 15 hours away from me. Thank goodness for "family plans" on the cell phone. LOL
I don't totally trust this dealership I took it too, but I have little choice right now. I am just trying to gather all my info before I go pick it up and get the bill. They looked at me like I was crazy when I went in there and told them what was wrong with it and told them the part that I needed. Hate to sound sexist (and NOT trying to start an arguement), but I guess they don't think women are that smart or they don't like it when people (man or woman) comes in knowing what is wrong with it. I know not all mechanics are that way, but this is a small town and I have dealt with this issue before (when buying a truck). That is another story...
I do greatly appreciate all the information that you guys have given me when dealing with this issue. I feel more confident going to get the repair done.

For part and all, that seems reasonable. Time is money.... I think when it's all said and done, I'll have about 130 bucks tied up in mine altogether.....

Clear two inch plastic tape better than duct tape.
I also had a power window problem which involved the replacement
of the motor and the regulator.
Along with that, I had to wait a few days before my parts came in and another week before a friend was able to help me. As such, I had the window disconnected but in place for two weeks before it was able to be repaired.
What saved the day was the use of clear plastic tape instead of the duct tape that is normally recommended for holding the glass in place prior to repair. I used the 2 inch clear tape from the Dollar Store.
I cleaned the window first, then put a generous wrap of tape on the inside and carried it over the top of the door frame and down the outer edge. To prevent any possible paint problems, I laid a single later of newspaper over the painted surfaces prior to putting the tape in place.
The end result was that I could have gone a year without having the parts replaced and have no problems. But I got it done by the end of the second weekend with no problems.
Just something to keep in mind if you have to replace the power window innerworkings but have to wait till payday or whatever.
