Right, but the question is why is Opie doing that in attempt to check MPG? Resetting the MPG counter is all that's needed. Now his truck has to do a relearn, which could hurt MPG

Always seem to get worse gas mileage with brand new spark plugs. Think it goes back to feeling the power thing until forgot about.

I am full aware I can reset mileage via the info center. I unplugged the battery in hopes of giving the computer a fresh start with a brand new fuel filter, a new k&n filter, and a cleaned throttle body.

Like I said in post I did 85% city driving and that includes two very steep hills of about .25 miles each.

My question was, why was my miles to empty reading going down 3-5 miles for every 1 mile of driving?? Seemed extremely odd. Was not hot rodding. I suspected computer to be relearning. Less load for fuel pump, less restrictive filter, and clean throttle plate and walls.

It will adjust as the mpg adjusts. Did you do the relearn process before you drove?

I did not do relearn process. I hoped unplugging the battery would work.

Good news is that I drove to work this morning 12 miles and the miles to empty was right with it. It also went down 12. So I guess whatever happened was fixed or relearned or corrected.

If your only issue is the DTE, then you need to look in your manual (version online if needed) to understand how it works. It uses the last 500 miles of driving history. By disconnecting the battery, you likely lost the history, and it's now using the current driving. As you get closer and closer to 500 miles you will see it stabilize more.

If your goal was to give things a fresh start, you might have researched the proper procedure to do so, and length of time that it needs to be done. Depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

Unplugging will start the relearn process. I don't know the exact specifics. I'm sure they can be found on here with a quick search but it's something like start and idle for 15 minutes and so on before you drive.

All good to know.

Truck is running pretty smooth. Happy with new air filter so far. Dad has kn in his expedition and I have one in my mustang. Good brand.
