I just changed my rear diff oil along with a new pinion seal. I used Royal Purple 75w 140 and the Ford Friction modifier. Took just over 3 quarts.
You mean 2 quarts...

That is what I was hoping. 3 seems to be too much.

Well, crap.... looks like I should probably schedule to do that one as well. The 4x4 has not been used that much and I have not had it completely submersed under water, but I should do it for piece of mind.

How hard is it to remove the skid plate? Any surprises that I should know about?

Thanks!

Easy to take the skid plate off. You will need some long extensions to get to some of the top bolts of the front diff but over all pretty easy. Takes a little finagling to slid the cover off. Same as rear diff use permatex to seal it back up. Front takes 75w-90 2 quarts should be enough, no additive needed.

TechRep mine took about 3.5 quarts.

Is it possible to pump the fluid out of the front? I know you can't for the rear.

My rear 3.55 LS took all of 3 quarts of Mobile 1 Full Synthetic 75W-140 and a bottle of Motorcraft XL-3 friction modifier.

Check out Lube Locker. They make reusable gaskets for diffs.
